Success Story – ITS Converts an Empty Warehouse into a Chemical Manufacturing Plant

As the principal contractor ITS was responsible for successfully managing and delivering a £1m new batch processing plant for a chemical manufacturer.  ITS’ team converted a large empty warehouse area into a 2000 square metre chemical production facility.
ITS won the major project management contract to design, supply, construct and commission the brand new chemical plant that now operates on a ‘Just In Time’ basis. ITS’ team was responsible for everything from producing the detailed design documents and specifications, obtaining building regulations approval for the mezzanine flooring and access, producing and managing the mechanical and electrical design, configuring and implementing the Rockwell RS View SCADA system and RS Batch control system, to the construction of the plant within the warehouse building, commissioning and training.

The new chemical plant includes material storage facilities for liquids and powders, material handling facilities (pipework, pumps, weighing facilities), mixing tanks, laboratories and offices, dust extraction and filtration amenities, a batch control system and pipe bridge adjacent to the bulk storage tanks and piping.

Due to the nature of the contract and the time scales required by the client it was necessary to manage the installation as a fast track project. ITS spent the first four months of the project producing working drawings, and converting the client’s vision into design documentation and specifications. This ensured that the project was executed and performed to the client’s expectations. Seven months were then spent converting this into a working plant.

Other experience includes providing project management consultancy to end users to co-ordinate supply contracts, and facilitate interfacing between specific application control and monitoring systems in a number of industry sectors including power generation, transmission and renewable energy. ITS’ skills in specific areas enable specific control systems and network experience to be provided, as required to support project requirements.
