Office Manager
Tracy Taylor
Growing up in the shadows of Saddleworth Moor and amongst cotton mills I decided at an early age that I wanted to be a nanny. Some say it was due to watching Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music too many times, we will never know.
2 years training led to me leaving the North-West and moving to Berkshire where I started my 13-year nanny career finally arriving in York in 1990. During the next 5 years I met my husband, became a Special Constable, ended my nanny life and started another chapter moving to the North-East in 1995 where my second career working in private security filled the next 17 years.
I did try to retire early however, ITS quickly became my third career. Initially helping ad-hoc with Admin and now, 9 years later I find myself in the role of Office Manager where I am able to use my life skills and transferable skills to support the business and colleagues.
Q&A's
What inspired you to pursue a career in the automation industry, and how did you get started in this field?
Honest answer: I don’t have an answer. My role at ITS is not within the technical side. I understand what ITS do but for everyone’s sake I am kept well away from the techie stuff. I have a laptop and a handful of cables I need to plug in and have passed my basic Electrical Safety Test requirements which is all the technical access I need.
Wise move, trust me. Before I worked at ITS it was common knowledge that if you wanted IT to fail, pass it over. There was talk of ITS hiring me a long time ago to break things so the ITS engineers could learn and develop by repairing what I had broken.
What do you enjoy most about working at ITS, and what sets you apart from other automation businesses in the industry?
Working at ITS gives me the opportunity to use my skills and knowledge and challenges me regularly. Every day is a school day. I learn and try new things on a regular basis and I am given the opportunity and responsibility to make decisions and own what I do.
No two days are the same. I need to be adaptable, problem solving, act quickly and efficiently and make decisions. Leak in the ceiling? Overflowing toilet? all in a day’s work making it impossible to predict what my day might look like.
ITS develops and grows through continuous improvement offering the best solutions to our customers requirements. Recruiting the best people with the right attitude and mindset will lead us to achieving our next goals.
What do you like to do outside of work to unwind and recharge, and how do you balance your personal and professional life?
I am a home bird who loves nothing more than enjoying our home and garden with odd times of madness.
Travel, either holidays or weekends away in the UK or Europe and further afield are a big part of my downtime including the weeks of planning and preparation. One trip is usually a road trip which gives me the opportunity to see and explore lots of places in one hit.
Travel and Travel often as possible. Expect the unexpected and always leave a place with something to go back for.
